Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an admission fee for matches?

Yes, most high school sporting events in Nevada charge a small admission fee. Prices vary by location but typically range from $5-$10 for adults and students.

When should wrestlers arrive for weigh-ins?

For tournaments, weigh-ins typically begin promptly at 7:00 AM. Wrestlers should arrive at least 30-45 minutes prior to check weight. For dual meets, weigh-ins are usually 1 hour before the JV start time.

How does scoring work in a match?

The main objective is to pin your opponent. If no pin occurs, points determine the winner:

  • Takedown (3 pts): Taking opponent from standing to mat with control.
  • Escape (1 pt): Getting away from bottom position to standing.
  • Reversal (2 pts): Coming from bottom position to top control.
  • Near Fall (2-3 pts): Holding opponent's back near the mat (45 degrees) for 2-4 seconds.
What equipment does my wrestler need?

Required: Wrestling shoes and Headgear.
Recommended: Knee pads and a mouthguard (mandatory if the wrestler has braces). All gear should be brought to every practice.

How long do tournaments last?

Wrestling tournaments are all-day events. Wrestling usually starts at 9:00 AM and can go until late afternoon or evening depending on the bracket size. We recommend bringing food, water, and comfortable seating for spectators.

Hygiene & Health

Skin health is critical in wrestling. Skin checks are performed before every tournament. If a wrestler has a suspicious mark, they may be disqualified without a doctor's note.
